Detroit went broke...

How does a city go bankrupt?  By not paying attention to the fiscal reality.  (The current Detroit government is trying to unravel the problems left by decades of big government  neglect.) Detroit has broken city government with more than $18 billion in debt, with about $3 billion more of unfunded liabilities.  The debt-load shows a big government's politicians' massive indifference the suffering people endure when government irresponsibly overspend.

Detroit's wrong attitudes about crime and private economic development have driven away the masses and blighted the city.  None of this was a surprise to anyone -- none of this happened in a corner.  The avant-garde politicians who sculpted Detroit's doom for decades are entirely responsible  --- along with the weeny citizens who voted for the politicians who offered the most gravy.

All the while Detroit politicians were singing the song of how they heard the people and how politicians did marvelous deeds fending off the disaster they had created.  Meanwhile, the politicians made no hard choices -- they were not even bothering to inform themselves about the limitation of reality.

Its clear the government unions have a role in bankrupting the city.  "The future of retiree pension and health benefits for thousands of city workers hangs in the balance" says a huge amount about how over compensated Detroit's government employees have been.  Make no mistake -- most of this largesse has gone to union bosses and not the rank and file worker.

The cozy and incestuous relationship between the city government and the government unions established a payback system into which millions of dollars have disappeared.  Detroit City Councilwoman JoAnn Watson said Obama should toss some 'bacon' Detroit's way for the election results Detroit delivered. This "bacon" may be payoff for rigged balloting results in the Motor Cit.

Any Detroit politicians who have held office in the last 20 years should be closely examined for criminal corruption.  There is no other realistic explanation of how government can spend so wildly without lining someone's pockets.  $18 billion would make 18,000 Democratic Party members millionaires.

The low information voter votes for the low information politician.  They share the motive of "what's in it for me".   This can only lead to bad government and a bad mischief to the innocent citizen and those in need.  And it strongly reminds one of the current administration and the "Democratic Party" in general.

I can't imagine that more dominoes will not fall. Lots of municipalities are headed in the same direction as Detroit, IMO.
