The Fairness Doctrine is effective exercise of prior restraint censorship. It is an unacceptable expansion of government control over the broadcast market. First, there was campaign finance reform, and the government muzzled free political campaigning. Now government wants to muzzle free opinion.
A radio broadcaster which specializes in satisfying a whacko conservative audience would be required to broadcast countering liberal points, using a formula of equal time for presentation.
The trouble is that 1) the counterpoints are subject to government review as to pertinence, and 2) the whacko conservative audience will probably be bored and tune out. Either way, the broadcaster has a big problem satisfying the market. The broadcaster can dodge the problem by switching to another format, all disco for example.
If you liberals feel left out....

Nancy Pelosi and all you Congresspeople, leave us alone.
