Israel was asked to send police officers to help in Haiti.
Following a request from the United States and the United Nations, the Israel Police will send dozens of armed officers to join peacekeeping efforts in Haiti, The Jerusalem Post reported Wednesday.
"The United States has requested that Israel consider sending a contingent of police officers to join the international force," said Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman. "The Israeli contingent will be comprised of 100 police officers." The Israeli police force will join the current Israeli delegation that has been in Haiti since Saturday.
