The Bureau of Labor Statistics released its monthly unemployment statistics last week. The report said the current US unemployment rate was essentially unchanged at 8.3 percent. Because "experts" were expecting the unemployment rate to rise, Obama has been credited with improving prospects.But the Obama government's notion of the unemployment rate is a shifty one. Compare July 2012 to July 2011 -- the official number of unemployed declined from 13.7 million to 12.5 million. But the "participation rate" -- the number of people who were still trying to find a job -- dropped 0.4%. "Not in labor force" (permanently unemployed) grew by 2,184,000 since July 2011. This means the Obama economy has hired some workers, yet more people seek to make a living outside of productive work.
The Obama government has offered enticements to stay out of work, from 99 weeks of unemployment to numerous "jobs bills" designed to tighten federal grip on the economy. Obama is clueless about how free people run their lives.
Yet the administration's favorite weapon to dispense political favor and ruin lives is the Environmental "Protection" Agency. This explains why the administration stalled the Keystone pipeline, and why Obama used the EPA to shut down Republican owned Gibson Guitar.
The toxin of big government is still poisoning the economy and workers' attitudes.
