On June 3rd, Mr Obama is expected to sign the United Nations gun ban treaty. After the president signs the treaty, the Senate is required to approve the treaty for the treaty to take effect (US Constitution. Art. 2, § 2).
No one can seriously doubt that Mr Obama would dearly love to limit the peculiarly excellent American right and freedom to be armed.

The National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action is circulating an online petition against Senate approval of the treaty. The petition reads:
Whereas: The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution guarantees my fundamental, individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms; Whereas: The U.N. Arms Trade Treaty opens the door to international gun control regulations, restrictions, and bans that directly infringe on my right to purchase, own, carry, and use firearms; Whereas: President Barack Obama supports the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty and is expected to sign it at his soonest opportunity; Whereas: All international treaties must first be ratified by the United States Senate prior to taking effect as law over American citizens; Therefore: I call on you, in the strongest way possible, to vote AGAINST ratification of the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty and fight any attempts by the Obama administration and international bureaucrats to destroy Second Amendment freedoms and our American sovereignty. |
