Los Angeles, now with over 2000 new cases a day due to the protests, Los Angeles County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer admitted it was “highly likely” that the demonstrations led to the spike ( Washington Examiner ).
Regardless, there are groups insisting that, magically, the protests had nothing to do with the spike ( e.g. NY Post ).
And while the cases have jumped, the deaths continue to drop ( Twitter ). I haven't gotten the data yet, but this seems to be based on who was at the riots. Young persons are more likely to riot as a social event, and young persons are more likely to survive COVID 19.
“In any case, the health, social and economic cost of shutting the economy again are too high. Twenty-one million Americans are unemployed. Countless businesses and livelihoods have been destroyed. Rhode Island reported this week that drug overdose deaths spiked 22% in the first three months of this year,” the Wall Street Journal editorial board explains ( WSJ ).
