Beijing flew 39 military aircraft over Taiwan over three days as China celebrated its National Day holiday. Most were J-16 and Su-30 fighters.
Taiwan Premier Su Tseng-chang condemned China for its actions on Saturday, saying the country was engaging in military aggression and damaging regional peace. (The Straights Times).
This is Beijing's largest such prodding in the past year, prompting the U.S. to warn against what it called provocative military activity (WSJ).
"The US commitment to Taiwan is rock solid and contributes to the maintenance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and within the region," State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement on Sunday, Oct 3 (The Straights Times).
Beijing clearly is testing the Biden administration for a competent response -- they saw how Biden fumbled the American withdrawal from Afghanistan.
No doubt many among the ethnic Chinese of Taiwan felt some pride that China has such muscle. But at the same time, they don't want their island country to be invaded by a monstrous, authoritarian Beijing regime.
