Whoopi is suspended from The View (ABC https://abc.com/shows/the-view) for two weeks over her it's-not-about-race comments regarding destruction of the Jews by the Nazis in WW2. Later she repeated her remarks on “The Late Show With Steven Colbert” that evening. She walked back the remarks on Twitter later that night amid widespread outrage. (NY Post).
So she got punished: In a note to staff, ABC News prez Kim Godwin says, “While Whoopi has apologized, I’ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments. The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family and communities” (Oliver Darcy, CNN - Twitter).
Some at the network want her fired (Page Six).
But she repeated her remarks. Repetition of her remarks indicate she is truly antisemite. She followed up her "apology" with more proof she remains ignorant at least. Shortly after she told Colbert people “misunderstood what I was saying” she told him near the end of this clip Nazis “had issues with ethnicity, not with race, because most of the Nazis were white people, and most of the people they were attacking were white people. So, to me, I’m thinking, ‘How can you say it’s about race if you are fighting each other?‘” The two minute video is in the link (Daybreak Insider - Twitter).
Whoopi has threatened to quit in retaliation for the forced time out (New York Post). Cancel culture is eating its own.
The insight from all this is that vain ignorance led Whoops to insist on claims that simply aren't so. Predictably, social pride compelled ABC to appear virtuous, so they applied condescending discipline to Whoopi. In turn, she feels insulted and is having a tantrum. These are your Woke leadership, America.
Incidentially, this year the Jewish remembrance day, Yom HaShoah, is Tuesday, Apr 18.
